Bush shows up on Topps baseball card -- ARRGGHH!
Mon Mar 12, 2007 at 09:09:50 AM PDT
OK, I admit it. I'm a baseball card collector. Have been since I was 8. That's 42 years. Nowadays, every March, when the new cards come out, I go over to eBay and buy myself a new set. It's a rite of spring for me. A big deal. Well, this year, I go over to eBay, but something's wrong... First of all, the sets are more expensive... and people are selling them without the Jeter card. I do a little nosing around, and what do you imagine has happened...?
We need the biggest anti-war demonstrations in U.S. history: 20,000,000 people
Fri Apr 21, 2006 at 04:47:21 PM PDT
The era of the political demonstration is back. The immigrants' rallies are a harbinger: they've proven that demonstrations,
done right, can be powerfully relevant again. But we now need to prepare for something far bigger.
It is now clear that George Bush plans to attack Iran, most likely before Election Day, and quite possibly with tactical nuclear weapons. Early this fall, we will need to get out into the streets for the largest peaceful anti-war demonstrations in American history. Given the horror of what's in store, we have no choice.
And we can do it. The largest anti-Vietnam war rallies brought together roughly half a million people. We can run rallies all over the country, and bring together 20,000,000 people to stop this.
GWB: The Impact of Catastrophic Leadership
Fri Dec 30, 2005 at 07:39:30 PM PDT
Last summer, I sat down to write an essay evaluating George W. Bush as a leader. My goal: to reach beyond the usual anti-Bush base, and make a case that enlightened corporate managers or executives might appreciate. Then, Hurricane Katrina happened, and Bush's incompetence became so self-evident that any attempt to write about it seemed redundant. But Bush and Rove continue to survive; in fact their polls have ticked upwards. So I've hauled this essay out of the deep freeze, and polished it off. The point: that, even politics aside, the man is simply a catastrophe as a leader.
Essay after the fold...
5+ thoughts on where we need to go next
Wed Nov 03, 2004 at 11:03:09 AM PDT
So where do we go from here? We pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and start again -- smarter, more focused, more effective, and as unified as we were on Monday. Here are the beginnings of some thoughts on what we need to do.
There are two ways to look at the election we've just lost...
What Kerry should say in Debate #1
Tue Sep 21, 2004 at 09:50:24 AM PDT
I'd like to see what the Kos community thinks Kerry should say in Debate #1, and how he should say it. My thoughts follow, but I think he has to start off by making it clear why it's important to hold a President -- any President -- accountable. If one thing's become obvious, it's this: millions of people really don't understand what's involved in a vital, well-functioning democracy: Kerry needs to take a moment to tell them... Otherwise he'll be seen as strident and negative, and Bush can coast to victory looking Presidential...
